Have Ask Toolbar on my computer when I install FF- 11. I have windows 7, 64bit version. Any suggestions how to remove it? And, Why does FF load it browsers with malware and such? If, I can not remove it. I will remove FF, period and use something else.

The ask toolbar usually comes bundled with other software, such as Java, Flash, etc. However, if you read Uninstalling add-ons, it should help you remove it. You may also have to, after following the directions in that article, click on Start, the Control Panel, then Programs or Features. Uninstall Ask from there as well.

Just to add to Tyler's response, Mozilla would never bundle Firefox with something like the Ask toolbar -- this always gets installed through various third-party software that tend to bundle stuff like this and modify your Firefox experience. Sorry about the inconvenience, and let us know if you can successfully uninstall Ask using the instructions provided above.

If you go to 'programs and features' in Windows 7 then you will find an uninstall for this toolbar in there. In future, when installing other softwares, look out for the sneaky page where they ask if you want to install it and uncheck the appropriate box to say 'no', I don't want this software installed. As above, it's often bundled with things like Java.

I have now used the uninstall of the add-on' I have performed the config utility as the AVG suggested TWICE. I tried to modify the config string to rid myself of the Ask.com cancerous AVG safe search. What do I do. The malware program I have doesn't see this as malware at all. Leia

I have not been able to remove the Ask search engine from Firefox. Along with your emails, was an email, evidently from Ask Toolbar people that offer to help me with the problem. They asked for the pertient info regarding what programs, etc and firefox I have on my computer. Sent them a reply. Never did get a reply. Still have the problem with firefox. I do not have Java on my system. Uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it. Still the same on Ask Search engine on my Firefox. Using Chrome, currently....since can not get the Firefox fixed or problem resolved. thanks jr Any other suggestions?

jrob, just in case you didn't try this yet, Ask.com's Toolbar FAQ says to uninstall the toolbar at the Windows level:

Ask Toolbar > Toolbar Uninstall and Home Page Reset

I used the config utility to remove the "ask" safe search. Yes, I downloaded in a really not noticing the toolbar add-on. When I removed all mention of the "ask" safe search, I was able to rid myself of the search engine. I did try just removing the add-on. It didn't work. I love my Mozilla and the community. My thanks to all.
