I click on the ff icon to open ff and the normal password window opens and I fill it in and enter. That reveals another password window and fill it in and ff then opens.

I'm not aware of any password windows opening when starting Firefox. What is the normal one, and does the other one say anything different?

It might help if you post post screen shots of these dialogs. This article might help: How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

You might try disabling ALL your nonessential extensions, then restart, and see whether that makes any difference. You can do that here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Are you using Sync?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
