I have deleted and reinstalled firefox. I have set all settings to default settings. My internet works and able to bring up my regularly used sites. I am not able to do a search on firefox, or internet explorer and google chrome cant even come up. I hit search and about 15 min later it times out,

Can you search if you go directly to a search site first? In other words, is the problem with one or more of the 3 Firefox search boxes:

  • Search box on the built-in home page (about:home)
  • Search bar that has the icon (and drop-down to choose your search engine) at the left side
  • Address bar

If the search sites themselves do not load, could you check for possible unwanted redirects in the Windows hosts file? Microsoft has a help article here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/972034

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
