When I was unable to play a video on Discovery Education, I was prompted to update the wmp Firefox plugin. I clicked on the links, downloading the file and then running install, but it doesn't appear to be downloaded as I still can't play the video and there is no version of wmp listed under Tools, Plug ins.

hello, please try this: enter about:config into the firefox address bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named plugins.load_appdir_plugins. double-click it and change its value to true (a restart of the browser might be necessary afterwards for the change to take effect).

some background on the issue is explained in http://www.ghacks.net/2013/05/15/why-you-may-have-lost-access-to-plugins-or-extensions-in-firefox-21/

I have done all that, but still cannot play videos on websites. e.g trying to play a video on the Manchester City website or similar on Daily Mail, will not work.
