I have the options set to open MP3's in a separate player- I've had it like this for years. Now with the new update, when I click on an MP3 link, it simply opens with a player inside Firefox. This is a really annoying feature because it moves you off the page you were on to open that player. I need to be able to stay on the page while playing the MP3.

Please tell me how to fix this!

Maybe the player is using DirectShow as a fallback when Media Foundation is disabled? You could try toggling the media.directshow.enabled preference from true to false. (I don't know what else this might affect.)

  1. Type about:config into the address bar and press Enter.
  2. Press the big button to bypass the warning.
  3. In the search bar, paste media.windows-media-foundation.play-stand-alone
  4. In the search results, double-click media.windows-media-foundation.play-stand-alone to set its value to false

Thanks for the reply- I just did that, and nothing has changed.

What player is opening? If you right-click a plugin, typically it has a proprietary menu. If you get the same menu you get on ordinary web pages, then likely it is a built-in player.

Yes, it is the same menu but with a few additional menu options (Play, Mute, Play Speed, and Hide Controls). So it is definitely a built-in player.

Oddly enough, MP4's are still opening up in a separate player (the way they should). So the problem is only affecting MP3's
