Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
  • In previous Firefox versions, click on the Firefox button at the top left of the Firefox window and click on Help (or click on Help in the Menu bar, if you don't have a Firefox button) then click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hi restart with safe mode close the fire fox still crash what to do now?

more options

Yes, if you could submit some crash reports, that might be helpful in tracking down the problem.

Assuming Firefox saved the data on your past crashes, you should be able to access it using the about:crashes page as described in the last section of this support article: "Firefox Crashes".

If you find crash IDs that start with bp- then you can copy and paste those into a reply here. If they do not start with bp- please click them, and then when you get onto the crash-stats server, copy and paste the URL into a reply here.

Thanks, the link is the most helpful part because it shows whether there are related bugs on file, and comments from other users with the same issue.

It seems related to audio or video playing at the time of shutdown. Do you remember any tabs with running audio or video at that time? If so, could you try stopping it before shutting down the next time to see whether that makes any difference?

You can try to disable the HTML5 media player as a test.

You can toggle these prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • media.directshow.enabled
  • media.windows-media-foundation.enabled

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Hi macckku, you wrote:

Could it be the mail site??

Try navigating away from your email site to a blank tab before shutting down. To do that, you can type or paste about:blank in the address bar and press Enter to run it. (For testing, you might want to bookmark that.)

Or, if you start up Firefox to a blank tab and let that rest for 60 seconds and then shut down, do you get the same crash (same "signature")? To do that, you can use the search box on the Windows start menu. Paste this and press Enter:

firefox.exe "about:blank"
