Firefox keeps crashing on twitter

more options

At random times when i go to post a tweet on twitter or reply to someone else's message, firefox crashes

Every time the crash occurs this message appears in the error log startxfce4.log

?[11639] ###!!! ABORT: Aborting on channel error.: file /build/buildd/firefox-32.0.3+build1/ipc/glue/MessageChannel.cpp, line 1532 [11639] ###!!! ABORT: Aborting on channel error.: file /build/buildd/firefox-32.0.3+build1/ipc/glue/MessageChannel.cpp, line 1532

i've tried the following

Starting firefox in safe mode Creating a new test profile

none of the above have helped, and these crashes occurred after the upgrade to

32.0.3+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 on 25th sept, i have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox

using sudo apt-get purge firefox && apt-get install firefox

this has not helped either.

HI shadowwraith, If you have them, can you please provide the crash ids of the crashes for further investigation?

A new profile in the new installation was also tried as well? (sanity check on my part)

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste that into the "Post a Reply" box. (Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the ID's. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like)

Thank you.

the crash on the 14th Sept was before the 32.0.3+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 update

That looks like a problem with Hunspell dictionaries.

You can read through this bug report to see if that gives any clues of what you can try:

  • bug 983817 - [x86 Linux Ubuntu packages] crashes during spellchecker initialization (various textfield/textarea interactions/message compose) due to compiler bug using a 32-bit read for a read from an array of unsigned short

well there's certainly a lot of talk about it, but as of yet no solution or fix.

Also the fact i use the en_gb (provided by myspell_en-gb) dictionary and not en_us (hunspell_en-us), can't even remove hunspell due to dependencies.
