Javascript says enabled but won't run. isjavascriptenabled says yes. Even after clean reinstall, add-ons disabled, safe mode.

Firefox 32.0.3

Uninstalled incl trashed Firefox folder in Library/Application Support

Redownloaded and installed Firefox Quite obviously complete new profile

isjavascriptenabled.com/ says YES Another site running it says, "Your JavaScript is enabled!"

Many major sites do open fine

Clicking links in both cnbc.com and http://www.nws.noaa.gov I get the message: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (javascript) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context."

About:config search for javascript says javascript.enabled is true All javascript are either true or a number except the following are false: ...discardSystemSource ...options.mem.log ...options.mem.notify ...options.strict

Restarted in Safe Mode

"All add-ons have been disabled by safe mode."

javascript still not running. The same links in cnbc.com and nws.noaa.gov give the same above error message about javascript.

Repeated: isjavascriptenabled.com/ says YES Another site running it says, "Your JavaScript is enabled!"

In this test NoScript has not been involved in any way.

I just can't use Firefox when it won't run javascript on these well known trusted sites.

Will use Chrome until someone reports Firefox is fixed.

I think I've got it, just my suspicion:

Firefox's verification of SSL certificates is suddenly returning false negatives, and Firefox won't run js on sites with unverified certificates.

Which specific links are giving you the error, because the links are working for me with javascript enabled or disabled. There is an old thread here that suggests checking network.protocol-handler.external.javascript is set to false in about:config, which it should be in your case since you reset everything.

I've kept trying FireFox periodically, esp since the update to 34. But I keep getting this, so have to use Chrome. This was the second one Firefox gave me in the last few minutes, this one from Google Calendar, trying to just edit an entry, without NoScript:

"Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because one of the following protocols (javascript) isn't associated with any program or is not allowed in this context."
