What is your account type with Dreamhost - POP or IMAP? The answer to your question depends on that information.

i believe it's IMAP. all incoming messages are mirrored on my desktop and when i check email remotely (phone or webmail). so if i want to delete a message completely, i need to delete it both places separately. does that answer?
