I've lost all bookmarks. Tried the restore option and managed to lose all the new ones I created

Two weeks ago I suddenly lost all my bookmarks, both Bookmarks and Unsorted Bookmarks. I had a ton of information in folders under the Unsorted Bookmarks with recipes, patterns, etc. that I have built up over time. They are gone. I also had quite a few regular bookmarks as well. I have worked to re-create some of those bookmarks. Today I tried to recover them using your suggestions. All I managed to do is lose all but two of the unsorted bookmark folders I had recreated. I'm sure you can appreciate how frustrated I am at this point. Pretty much pulling my hair out frustrated.  :)

Hi joylagasse541, try using Firefox's Restore feature as described in this article: Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer. When you click "Choose File" on the menu, you can navigate to the Desktop, into Old Firefox Data, and into your old settings folder, then into the bookmarkbackups folder.

Note: The restore will replace any bookmarks you might have saved since you lost them. Hopefully that's not a problem, but if it is, you need to add two steps:

(1) Export the new bookmarks to an HTML-format file (Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks) (2) Restore the backup (3) Import the HTML file and then move those bookmarks to a logical location in the menu (Import Bookmarks from an HTML file)

What did you do to restore bookmarks? If you used the function in the Library dialog, were there any other dates listed from which you could restore? Maybe you can get the most recent bookmarks back that way.

For your two-weeks-ago bookmarks, could you check your desktop for an "Old Firefox Data" folder? If you used the Refresh feature during an update -- which can happen when Firefox says it is starting slowly and you can improve performance by restoring some default settings -- then your old settings are moved to the desktop into the Old Firefox Data folder.

If you find that folder, we will have lots of suggestions for next steps.

Posted in a duplicate thread.

As noted above, I asked a question earlier about all my bookmarks disappearing a couple weeks ago. Jscher2000 responded asking me if I have an 'Old Firefox Data' file. I do! Is there hope for recovering my bookmarks?

Thanks,
Joy
