Firefox will not export data using a .csv file from a trusted website into my Excel program. IE does this perfectly.

I am using IE (version 11.0.9600.17801, Windows 8.1). When I click on the "Export to Excel" link in the lower left corner of the window I want to export, the .csv file with all the data in rows and columns appears almost instantly in my Excel program window. When I click on that same link in Firefox, all I get is a blink. I have tried all the options for saving and opening, but all I can get is a large .aspx file (visual Basic?) that appears to list to how the .csv file is constructed, but that doesn't help. What I want is the real data in row and column format. How do I get Firefox to do that?
