Visiting google.com/chrome on Firefox (and its GNU variant IceCat) freezes the system briefly then blacks out the entire screen. Rebooting is the most obvious solution as far as I know.

Just a comment to say I can see that site Firefox using Firefox canonical build on Ubuntu LTS14.0.4

I should have Debian and IceWeasel/IceCat available later this week, but can not test with those right now.

If perhaps you should try with a Mozilla build of Firefox, that is what we support here.
