Firefox Options freezes in place and cannot be accessed or changed.

I cannot access, use, or change the Options menu under Tools at all. When I click on Tool-Options, I get the main General page, but it is completely frozen in place. I cannot click on, use, or change anything on the page. It just sits there as initially opened. I have tried completely removing, then reinstalling Firefox, but the problem persists.

Chosen solution

I appreciate the post. However, I have not needed to try the suggestions. After posting my problem, I saw the "Refresh" Firefox option and tried it. That took care of teh problem. Thank you very much for your response, in any event. My problem now seems to be solved.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
