I have PasswordBox as an add on and all of a sudden it doesn't appear in menu bar.

Yesterday, I had no problems using PasswordBox for my bookmarks. Now, it shows up in addon and it says it is working, but the icon on the menu bar is gone. I am not able to sign in to my bookmarks. What has happened? I tried to copy the addon page showing this add on but it didn't work.

Chosen solution

PasswordBox unfortunately was not updated to work with Firefox 40 (its last update was in May). The extension used the old "widget" module to add its button to the tool bar and that module no longer exists in Firefox.

Please do contact Intel/McAfee to find out what their plans are for updating this extension, as other users are also asking and we would love to know.

If your online life cannot proceed without PasswordBox, you might need to return to Firefox 39.0.3, bearing in mind the security issues. This article has more information: Install an older version of Firefox.

Hi tjwells4, It is possible to check if the add on icon is still listed in the "+Customize" menu that pop out when you click on it in the hamburger menu. Else I would contact the add on developer to make sure it is still compatible with the latest version of Firefox.

Thank you for your help. I heard from the folks at McAfee and they are working on a solution. Until then, I have switched over to Google.

I'm not sure if this is everyone's solution, but it fixed things for me. I deleted PasswordBox from the Firefox addons (It was version 1.38.11.4170) then went to the PasswordBox website and re-installed it. This was version 2. Firefox threw a couple of warnings which I ignored, and the new version installed successfully. It now works properly, even though Firefox's addon page still shows its previous warning.

Hope this fixes some other folks problem!

Hi lsanders99, thank you for the suggestion.

I noticed the files inside version 2.0 of the extension were last saved on August 18th, and those were the updates for Firefox 40. Hopefully they will get it signed before Firefox 41 is released so it keeps working in that next version.
