awesome bar not working with bookmarks
using firefox 40.0, as stated above i start typing in a bookmark and get no type down suggestions or autocomplete options. Interesting things i have done, 1: restarted browser w/ all plugins disabled. then turned them back on. Also noticed that i seem to have to make a change to the new gooey clicky preferences interface, to make a change persistent between browser sessions. & before anyone parrots the defaults, yes i have went to preferences and said i want to use bookmarks (ala preferences privacy, when using location bar suggest). I even have christmas treed / applied a binary solution to the options,,,, use bookmarks, use bookmarks & history, use boookmarks & open tabs, etc etc, even up to and including use nothing). The only other caveat is i have imported old bookmarks, irregardless i can not type down old bookmarks or new ones, with the odd exception of it now typing down google.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wtaf btw google.com is not a bookmark???? i am really curious where this rabbit hole goes too. currently running lubuntu 14.02 lts 64bit, - i am using addons no script, ubuntu modification & places maintenance (incase my current problem was due to a corrupted sqlite database) yada yada , see information below for a complete picture

Your System Detail list shows that browser.urlbar.maxRichResults is set to 0, so that will prevent any suggestions from showing. You can reset this pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.
- browser.urlbar.maxRichResults: 0
Also check the browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled pref.
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
Note that you are currently in permanent Private Browsing mode.
- browser.privatebrowsing.autostart: true
First, yes it is set to 0, and i reset it, now things work. Now for the weird part, I never altered in the first place, same for private browsing mode (both were set by default upon initial clean install) . marking this as fixed

I'm getting this problem now. All of a sudden it's stopped working. It's happened on both my PCs: a portable (WIN 8.1) and a desktop (WIN XP SP). I'm running latest version FF 43.0.2 on both devices. I've never had this problem before (been using FF for many years). I'm not sure if this problem has appeared with this latest version, or in the previous one.
The portable seems to have fixed itself a few days after giving up on trying to fix it. Now I'm getting the same thing with my desktop.
My settings are as follows.
In Tools > Options:
Search tab -Verified "Provide search suggestions" is selected -Verified "Show search suggestions in location bar results" is selected
Privacy tab -Verified all options are selected -Verified "Firefox will:" Remember history
Any advice would be welcome.
