I have three gmail accounts running on Thunderbird, all were fine until yesterday when one account kept asking me to log into gmail. When trying this I kept getting an invalid username error message. I then put the username and password into notepad and copied and pasted into the dialogue boxes and again I got the error. I logged into my online gmail account and copied and passed from notepad into that and it was accepted. I deleted the account in Thunderbird and tried to set up a new account with the same name etc, again I got a error. The other two accounts are fine however. Any ideas this is driving me crazy :-)

Hello I cant do that because I deleted the account and as explained I cannot re-create the account, because of the above error. I am forced to cancel the account creation as it is the only option.

Are you running the new account wizard, and let Thunderbird automatically detect the correct server settings? What type of account are you trying to set up - POP or IMAP? What exactly are you doing when getting the error? What is the exact error message? Did you check the Gmail Help site? https://support.google.com/mail/answer/14257?rd=1

Yes tried Wizard to create the account then I get a message saying Congratulation found in Mozzila database. (IMAP option selected) I then click done I browser window open and asking me to sign into me Google account. I then get this message Oops! Your browser seems to have cookies disabled. Make sure cookies are enabled or try opening a new browser window. [?] I then close this window and return to the wizard and a message appears saying that the user name of password is invalid.

But when I check my browser the cookies are not disabled.

If I log into Gmail using my web browser I can access my mail ok.

Please the passwords are pasted from a text document to ensure typos are not the problem.

However I uninstalled Firefox, deleted my profiles, re-booted PC. Installed Firefox re-created the accounts and.......................... it worked.

Thanks everyone, I thing may have been down to a corrupt profile :-)
