This error now coming up on virtually all websites I attempt to open

- occurring across multiple users on multiple networks - ***does not occur on the same websites if I use a different browser***

All the suggested solutions to this problem talk about contacting the owner of the website or hacking around with certificates on the local PC - but obviously if the sites are accessible using Opera or IE neither of those can be the problem.

I'm amazed there aren't more questions about this, I have see it explode in the last three days.

Anyone? Anyone?

You can check the connection settings.

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.
