When replying to an email, or generating a new email, the <Enter> key press generates an empty line. How do I cancel this? Looked through all the options, couldn't find a facility to do this.

It is annoying. Not life threatening.

Chosen solution

If you are having this problem in the Thunderbird email program, please see this thread: TBird v 45 changed line spacing to double from single, need single.

If you have having this problem using a webmail site in the Firefox browser, try using Shift+Enter to insert a line break that doesn't start a new paragraph.

Is it an empty line? If you use the up arrow, does it go to the empty line?
