Can you please allow me to explain my problem without trying to give me problems to choose from?

OK, first, Finding some place to explain my problem simply is a problem. I went to a lot of time even finding this place. Can this process be made easy??? Second, I have a Mac and Firefox is my default Browser. I would like to make Yahoo my default home page. When I try to do this by going into Firefox preferences and filling in Yahoo, it allows me to go there but then seems to fall back to some firefox page; and I have to start all over again.I noticed that there is no SAVE Button on the preference page for changing. Surely, there must be an easier way to accomplish this.

In most cases, once you have made a change, it is recorded immediately.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.

So, would it not be better to guide me thru the steps to confirm or deny that the problem is fixed?? Where do I go to see what extensions/adware is installed and if it should be removed? I am not a computer geek, so you have to go slow and fully explain what to do. Bob C.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

On the left side, select what you want to check.

The about:preferences page doesn't have an OK button and changes are applied immediately. Additional pop-up windows do have an OK (bottom right) or close button (top right) or use Ctrl/Command+W.

If you do not keep the changes you make on the about:preferences pages then you may have problem with an extension or some other external (security) software.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename/remove the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:
