more options

in IE and Chrome when i do a search for an item in ebay and sort the results by most recent, "NEW" shows up at the start of each item that was listed in the last 24hrs. With Firefox I do not get the word "NEW" at the start of each recently posted item description in Ebay

Do you mean the gray thing in the attached screen shot?

That looks like something which is inserted on the server, so it shouldn't make a big difference how your Firefox is set up or what add-on you have, unless one of them is hiding it.

To check whether it's in the page, could you do a search where you find some newly listed items, then right-click the link for the item and choose Inspect Element.

That should open a panel in the lower part of the tab (possibly in a separate window) which the HTML of the link highlighted. Right below that, there should be a span which contains New Listing. (Second screen shot.) Is that in yours or missing from yours?

Hmm, I don't why it would be different. I didn't login to eBay, in case that might make any difference.

If you use eBay in a private window, there could be an issue with Tracking Protection. This article has more information on what it does and how to make a temporary exception if you see the "shield" icon toward the left end of the address bar: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

I do not have the "shield" icon on the left of the address bar when I am doing my searches in ebay. The "tracking protection" link did not provide any info that helped or solved my problem.

Do you run any add-ons that might block or filter elements of websites?? As a test, could you re-run the search in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

Running firefox in safe mode does not solve the problem.

I'm at a loss. I don't use eBay very often, so I'll just conclude with general advice and hope it helps:

When you have a problem with one particular site that previously worked normally, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Well this is what i have done lately: 1. Refeshed Firefox...did not help 2. Cleared Firefox Cache ...did not help 3. Cleared Firefox History...now it gets interesting. It helped for a few days and now the same problem is back

Hmm, it's hard to think of why clearing history would help in the first place, so it's hard to think of why accumulating more eBay history would create a problem. ???

Could paste a link for page that is missing the NEW indication to see whether you get a different results address than I do? You could try the same search (fz1000).

This is searching from the home page search box, then sorting by recently listed, not logged in:

attached is what i get

I have no idea why you get a different page than I do. Other than the URL and cookies, it doesn't make sense for the server to customize the results differently for you than for others.

That did not help either. I am now completely uninstalling firefox and will reinstall to see if that makes a difference
