When I click on new tab, a URL appears that can't be found. I can't get rid of it and it prevents icons from appearing.

I downloaded a site that made some changes on my computer. Since then, when I click on new tab, this URL appears in my browser and the File not Found error message appears.

I have deleted the URL but it still appears when clicking new tab. I have no access to new tab icons.

Thank you!

My guess is that an extension is causing that, by hi-jacking your new tab page.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1134397 Problem is that the OP in that thread didn't bother to mention how he fixed it. IOW, an identifiable name for the extension at fault.

You may have ad / mal-ware. Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

Having more than one version of a program may cause issues. You must remove the older programs. Then get the current full installer.

Flash: Grab the uninstaller from here: Uninstall Flash Player | Windows Uninstall Flash Player | Mac

Then reinstall the latest version.

Note: Windows users should download the active_x for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).

Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the active_x.

I found this about the link stuck on my computer.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1092284

It included a suggestion that an extension making Yahoo my search engine might be the culprit. I found it, deleted it, and rebooted. Problem fixed! Thank you.
