Fix New Tab

New tab issue. simple fix would be to bring a user back to their homepage on a new tab click. On two or more homepages redirect to first choice.

I have been using Firefox for many years. Yes third party extensions can exploit certain areas of Firefox, but it is just as easy to redirect to the homepage then it is to redirect to your tab page. This is what will drive me away from Firefox and to a browser that allows me more control.

I am a computer programmer and have been doing this line of work for close to 30 years now. Could I write a plugin to correct this, of course but why should I spend my time doing this? I can easily move to Chrome and add an extension. So now what would be a good reason for me to stay with Firefox? I left IE because of the control issues IE puts on their browsers. Please do not leave us no choice but to leave Firefox.

BTW my OS is Server 2008 not Windows 7

Hi, for security reasons, from Firefox 41, you need to use an add-on to make changes to the New Tab page.

You can try New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement). Once installed, open the Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Extensions, then look for New Tab Override and click on Options to set your preference. Note: You need to select an older version to work with your FF v43.

An alternative is Custom New Tab (FF v41+).

If you only want the New Tab to be the same as your home page, you can use the add-on New Tab Homepage instead. Note: You need to select an older version to work with your FF v43.

You may need to restart Firefox for any changes to take effect.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

To open a new Tab that is displaying your Homepage, you can middle-click the "Home" button. Or as Scribe mentioned there are a few extensions that add a feature to have your Homepage be your "New Tab page".

What's the deal with using that old Firefox 43 version? If you don't want the latest version of Firefox, currently 50.0.2, how about using the 45 ESR version that gets security updates, but no new features? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/

I guess neither of the above read my question. If you did you would see I have close to 30 years of computer experience. So simple solutions of clicking on the homepage after clicking a new tab.

Yes I do this when I click a new tab then the home button. This is annoying one extra click because someone thinks a new tab should not be redirected to a homepage.

Yes I could go to an older browser but as an experienced programmer we tell people to stay updated so we have the latest security issues looked after.

So if these are your solutions I guess this will be my last attempt for a realistic answer and move over to a browser that supports this.

For others that are tired of this install the Opera browser they have an option unchecking speed dial. Then when you click on New Tab it shows up as your homepage. No going back to an older browser, no clicking on the homepage button after clicking on the tab button. A simple solution, not a patch!
