Firefox is my preferred browser. I have a 2012 version of Google Chrome installed. Can I remove it without any issues.

more options

I raise the question because I am being asked to update Chrome to it's current version. If I uninstall the existing version of Chrome would this mean that I would not have the benefit of Google while using Firefox.

Chosen solution

No, Firefox has nothing to do with the Chrome Browser. There is a part of Firefox called chrome and it predates the Chrome Browser. A 2012 version is a security issue also. SO yes uninstall if you so choose. Might want to save your bookmarks from it.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Just make sure Chrome is not the default browser at the time you remove it. That can make it difficult to choose a different default browser.
