Recently Firefox has started consuming lots of CPU usage and causing my MacBook Pro to run its fan at high speed and the computer overheats.

This was explicitly demonstrated to me at an Apple Store Genius Bar on the "Activity Monitor(?)." ¿Is Apple trying to make user use of FireFox difficult?

I'd suggest doing the following:

  • You really should be running the latest version of MacOS if possible. 10.10 was released in 2014 (and the last security update was in 2015) and Apple has made some performance and security improvements since. The latest version of MacOS is 10.12, but if your computer can't run it at least update to 10.11https://www.apple.com/macos/how-to-upgrade/
  • AFTER you update to the latest MacOS, refresh Firefox. Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Let me know if this helps!
