I logged into thunderbird one morning just like I always do - click on the thunderbird icon in my task bar. But it wanted me to enter my charter.net password. The box was already filled in with dots, so I clicked on submit. It didn't like that, so I entered it manually. It didn't like that. So now I have no email.

Go to Tools|Options|Security|Passwords→Saved Passwords.

You can check the stored passwords there. You can delete them in order to get Thunderbird to prompt again, or you can edit them in place. Double-click or right-click to get these options.

I'd recommend closing and restarting Thunderbird after making any changes here.
