Hello!

Recently my Firefox has started crashing open tabs randomly / freezing up enterely and then needing a restart before working again. Refuses to load pages without a restart.

My GPU recently died so I have switched it out for a older one. I also took out both of my memory chips and put them back in again in the same process (trying to find out witch component was failing).

I have already ran a memtest to check for ram errors. But nothing was found.

The problem looks to be with the NVIDIA Driver. The bug report shows it is being worked on.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hello,

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).

To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

You can try to set this pref to false on the about:config page.

  • media.windows-media-foundation.allow-d3d11-dxva = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Options/Preferences -> General: Performance
remove checkmark: [ ] "Use recommended performance settings"
    "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

Thanks for the reply.

Problem still persists in safe mode. Happens as soon as a non HTML5 video starts playing it seems. Facebook video's or twitch.tv crashes the browser instantly.

Disabeling hardware acceleration in flashplayer or firefox did not help either.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunatly none of the suggestions worked.

My graphics drivers are up to date and changing the setting suggested did not fix the problem.

Is Ublock origin enabled on the tabs that are not reloading? This happened to me too where the page was blank until I turned the addon off for a particular tab.

It could have been a corrupt file that was overwritten.
