The search bar or the address bar?

Are you using search add-ons?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Hi,

It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and choose Add-ons.
  2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
  3. Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
  4. Click the Remove button.
  5. Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.

If you don't have any add-ons installed that look suspicious, you can also try the following:

  1. Open the "Firefox" menu, and choose "Preferences".
  2. Scroll down to the section titled "Home page", and click "Restore to Default".

If that still doesn't work, or if the page you mentioned comes back later, you should run an antivirus scan on your computer. The free version of MalwareBytes for Mac (https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/) is a good option, there are others available as well.
