How do I do IRC now that ChatZilla is gone?
I used to make copious use of the ChatZilla extension in Firefox for IRC (Internet Relay Chat) in Firefox. Unfortunately it perished in the Quantum upgrade. What can I use instead to access IRC?
I'maware that there are a couple of web-based IRC things, but the ones I've seen (Mibbit and Kiwi IRC) I didn't like verymuch. Logging in seemed very fiddly, unless I'm going about it wrong. What I really liked about ChatZilla was the convenience of not having tolog into anything, just access a channel rightthere as and when you needed it. Also the lovely, simple, animationless, adless, text interface.
Opinions gratefully received, please.
Chosen solution
Mozilla recommendations for IRC as it pertains to communicating with the Mozilla IRC server which hosts channels for discussion of topics related to the Mozilla project. https://wiki.mozilla.org/IRC
Should work for all other IRC channels.

You can look at a web based client like Mibbit as shown in the IRC link posted above.
Um, Cor-el, I did actually say in m posting that I'd already tried Mibbit and didn't like it! However, I tried it again in exasperation, and itt seems much more usable than I remembered it, actually (maybe I was thinking of a different site), and I seem to have been mistakken about needing to register for it. Let's just go with that.
You could use the SeaMonkey suite when you want to use Chatzilla. https://www.seamonkey-project.org/
You may be able to setup a launcher shortcut to the firefox .sh so it has -P profilename -chrome chrome://chatzilla/content/chatzilla.xul added on end.
Note the chrome urls have nothing to do with the separate newer Google Chrome browser.
