When I try to enter my mobile phone number, in whatever format, it says invalid phone number!
No more - that's it - I can't confirm set-up sync because it won't accept my valid uk mobile number in whatever format I enter it (0044, +44, ++44, with or without leading 0)

Note: Windows users should download the ActiveX for Internet Explorer. and the plugin for Plugin-based browsers (like Firefox).
Note: Windows 8 and Windows 10 have built-in flash players and Adobe will cause a conflict. Install the plugin only. Not the ActiveX.

Who or what is it you are sending your phone number to?
Firefox. Just entering it in the Firefox pop-up box that you get when you click on the confirm email link to set up 'Sync' with mobile phone.
I called for more help. Have you tried entering the number without # or + ?
Tried makes no difference. The box offered me a +34 start because I'm in Spain but I don't have a suitable Spanish smartphone so I changed it to my UK code +44 and it gives me invalid phone number however I enter it. Is it because the server knows I'm in spain and won't accept a UK phone? If so, it's a pretty silly restriction and the software needs re-writing to accept any international code.
It shouldn't be necessary to use a mobile device to confirm a Firefox Sync account.
Did you setup additional devices?
I was just following the on screen instructions on my Mac from Firefox to sync the phone after setting up the account and it asked for the phone number to send a link which seems quite reasonable but it wouldn’t accept my Uk mobile number as valid however I entered it as explained previously. This is exasperating!
Can you be reached in your current location under that number?
I assume that the Sync server wants to send some data to that device.
Yes I can. Is it because I’m in Spain and the server/software demands a Spanish number? (It pre-loaded the Spanish international code).
That shouldn't be a problem, I was able to set up Sync with my German phone number in China. There should be also a small "skip" link in the bottom left or right corner of the signup form.
