Fx 61

I want google searches from my search bar to open open in a new tab. Doesn't seem to be a problem with other search engines.

I have browser.urlbar.openintab` to `true`

It doesn't work.

According to the "New Tab from Location Bar" addon, "This project seems needless on Firefox 60 and later. You just go to `about:config` and turn `browser.urlbar.openintab` to `true`.

But I installed the addon anyway, and it works.

I prefer to avoid installing addons if there is alternative, so I'm seeking an explanation

thanks

I'm in the process of transitioning to Quantum. I thought it was going to be limited compared to pre 57, so I'm more pleased with it that I anticipated.

But I'm sure I don't have to tell to tell you guys that it seems that it's gonna take a lot of addons/tweaking/extracurricular customization to get it done.

I'm trying to get as much done as possible with about:config and the chrome folder, limiting the amount of addons.

As I said earlier, I have the "New Tab from Location Bar" addon, and according to it's description, all it does is set "browser.urlbar.openintab" to `true`.

Bottom line, the manual about:config tweak doesn't work for me, but the addon does.

I'm trying to figure out why.

They changed code at 57, then changed code at 60 again. Some of us are as lost as you are now with about:config. Ask if need help with userChrome as one of the Contributors runs the below site.

Just ask and will try to figure it out. I would guess you have figured out 3 bar Menu --> Customize then .....

Pkshadow, thanks for that.

I'm curious and confused. You are talking about this, right?

Why is it called a 3 bar Menu. It took me a while to figure out what people were talking about.

Hi, no that is the Overflow Menu where extensions or if use the Bookmark Toolbar and is full goes.

the 3 Bar menu is the very last thing next to that. 3 lines (patties) stacked on top of each other.

If use the Menu bar at the top with File | Edit| History | Bookmarks | Tools | Help then just go that way. If it is not turned on and you want turned on mouse to the top of the browser and right Click and turn it on.

If the add-ons works, but the pref doesn't work then you will have to use the extension.
