I have very poor eyesight and am unable to read many of my incoming messages that are in a very small font size when they arrive.

It takes me about one extra hour each day to fiddle around with these messages adjusting font size on each message.

Will there ever be a built-in or add-on font zoom tool that I can lock to "set and forget"?

Thank you!

No idea.

In "tools -> options -> display -> formatting -> advanced" (I'm assuming you enabled the menu bar toolbar) you can select a font size, specify a minimum font size and that messages can't use other fonts (than the ones you selected). That setting is sticky.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bad_Eyesight_-_Thunderbird for some other possibilities.
