it seems everyday new, frustrating, erratic behavior from Firefox. whether it's the page jumping to the top when selecting a text entry field, interactions with form submission/progression in applets being invisible (have to switch to another browser to see the buttons rendered), pages spontaneously reloading, etc. Firefox is becoming unusable.

Have you tried Refreshing Firefox? Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Another thing to ensure you've done is to run a scan with Malwarebytes (www.malwarebytes.com) and remove anything it finds.

Finally, try disabling hardware acceleration. Turning off hardware acceleration.

Also note, Firefox 64, which is currently planned to launch on Dec 11th, will include some significant performance benefits for Mac, so you should install that update ASAP.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
