Hi, I want to open the links to other websites in a new tab. Example: links from google search results should open in a new tab but next page of google search results should open in the same tab. How can I configure this in about:config settings? Tabmixplus addon had this option but it's not supporting now.

Unless I'm misconstruing your question (in which case I apologize) :

Don't toggle the preference I mentioned, and just use 'Ctrl + click link' when you want the link to open in a new tab.

To make sure that the tab doesn't open in the background, please check this setting :

3-bar menu (or Tools) => Options => General Under "Tabs" check : "When you open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately"

You could also check this on the Google page (bottom right) :

Setttings => Search settings - and scroll down to :

"Where results open"

Hello shyam3089,

To open links in a new tab, and you don't want to have to press the Ctrl key and then click the link, you could do this :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar and look for the preference :

browser.search.openintab

and set its value to true

Then close and restart Firefox.

Default value  : false – opens search results in current tab Modified value: true – opens search results in new tab

Then you enter your new search request on the still open Google page.

Hello McCoy, Thank you for the answering my question. Actually I want to open the links which is pointing to a different domain like links from google.com search results or any other websites. But it should not open a new tab if the link is under same domain.
