New Firefox version doesn't sync with previous versions; bookmarks gone

more options

I just opened Firefox and saw that it had been updated to a new version. This update contained the statement that the new version doesn't sync with previous versions and directed that order to retrieve bookmarks, add-ons, etc. that the user go to his or her account. But I had never seen the necessity to create an account in the past, so now, since I don't have one, it appears that I have lost all of my bookmarks. Why weren't Firefox users warned in advance that this change was coming so that we could create an account in order to restore lost information? This is very upsetting!!

It seems that my bookmarks and other settings have reappeared -- not sure why, but I'm relieved. Please disregard my question.
