Screen-reader crashes on viewing e-mails

more options

I am partially-sighted and use a screen-reader ZoomText 9.0 I have the latest version of Thunderbird If I receive an e-mail with additional content, i.e. Thunderbird puts ann orange banner across the top (Thunderbird has blocked some content in this e-mail - Options). My screen-reader will usually freeze and I will have to shut down my computer. E-mails these days increasingly have this additional "remote" content I had hoped that by blocking the content, Thunderbird would be in a sort of safe mode, but this is not the case. I realize that ZoomText may not be supported by Mozilla If I leave the e-mail open in a new tab, or selected and displayed in the preview panel, my screen-reader will freeze again on start-up. Is there any sort of safe mode when opening Thunderbird? Many thanks Kay

Hold the shift key while starting and continue into safe mode when prompted.

Have you reported the problem to zoomreader? Really it is something they should investigate.

I can find no bugs in bugzilla mentioning zoomreader bugzilla.mozilla.org but unless the crash in zoomreader can be traced to a fault in the Mozilla platform or Thunderbird there really is not much we can do about it here

I wonder what possessed me to decide it was zoomreader. Zoomtext has lots of mentions in bugzilla.

This indicates the issue was versions before 10. and that was 9 years ago. How old is this software?

But given most of what I looked at talks about video drivers, you might want to try toggling the setting in option for hardware acceleration. This was turned back on in V78 and might be the source of your issue.

Matt Thank-you for taking the time to reply and look into this. I ignored the "Zoom Reader" bit of your initial comment, thinking that you just like to call it that. I have contacted the supplier and I am waiting to hear back from them. I will look at the hardware acceleration setting on my system, and set it to off, if it is not already so. If I can find bugzilla, I will look at the other comments Thanks again K
