Forever you've been apply to type anything into the Google search bar on the home screen, but not anymore.

Now whateveryou type automatically appear up in the tab line with https// infront of it , then of course it comes back with ...cannot find that web address !!

I'm not looking for a web address, i'm searching a subject matter..

This change is SO annoying I'm now seriously thinking of dumping my much loved Firefox for something which works better.

Why isn't there the 'option' to do search without it 'assuming' you're looking for a web address ?

So Annoying and frustrating, whoever dreamt this idea up....?

Chosen solution

You can turn it off by entering about:config in the URL bar and switching browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.improvesearch.handoffToAwesomebar to false.
