No email since Decembers forced update

I have AT&T email tied to my Thunderbird and since the forced update I have been unable to download email into my desktop. I had to set up the profile and account info and change password but I still can not log onto and download email from att.net. I am hoping this also is why my folders have not migrated over to the new version. Error Message: Sending of password for user mitcheal.hathorn@att.net did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error - Please try again later.

Chosen solution

The authentication method for AT&T is 'normal password', but you must use a secure mail key instead of the account password in TB:
