Over the years I've migrated my Firefox profile from one computer to the next, but this time, I cannot make it work. I tried copying the contents of the old profile folder from my old computer into the new profile folder, the one with name ending in 'default user', which I confirmed was the one being used by looking in 'about:profile'. That has worked for me in the past, and it seemed to have worked for other users posting in this form. However, that did not work; Firefox still opened as if it was a fresh installation with none of my bookmarks, etc. Then I compared the 2 folders and found there were over 900 files in the new folder that were not in the old folder. So I deleted everything in the new profile and pasted the contents of the old profile in so they matched exactly. It still did not work. I welcome suggestions!

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).
