Thunderbird 128.0esr
I updated Thunderbird to 128.0esr. My Trash folder had messages in it prior to the update. These messages now have spurious characters at the end. Copying messages from the Inbox to the Trash folder after the update does not produce this behavior. I don't know whether this occurs with folders other than Trash. Listed below is a truncated example: Home Security System, AC Restored at 23 June 2024 11:07:17 AM EDT

One reason that new releases are not autoupdated immediately is that there may be minor bugs for first few days. That is why we do not advertise new releases to avoid issues such as yours. It may help to check other folders to see if this is happening elsewhere.
I did not see it in any other folder, but I did not have preexisting messages in every possible folder.
My thought, then, is to just stay where you are. Reverting to a prior version would not restore the trash folder.
