Customizing Search Function

I want to sequester Address Bar Function in the main address area for web address or native locations, from search function contained inside of the window, the search should be only a web search, but I think that part is covered in standard settings, so address. Thanks Much

Actually that might not be a setting, the Search might need told in code not cover address functions.

The location bar drop-down list can show history items, bookmarked pages, pages opened in tabs, top sites, and search suggestions. You can set what suggestions show when you enter an URL in the location/address bar bar. Settings -> Search -> Address Bar — Firefox Suggest:
Browsing history
Bookmarks
Clipboard
Open tabs
Shortcuts
Search engines

What I mean is I want the Search function not to complete in the address bar when things are typed into it, also the address bar I want to not be a search, and the search to not go to addresses, thanks much. OMNIBAR - - - > GUILLOTINE

You can disable searching via the address bar by setting keyword.enabled to false in about:config if that is what you mean.

So right now the address bar still has instruction text which shows up in address bar for both search and address, also when typing there it brings up the whole search box stuff while doing so, also I don't want it to add addressing either, if I add the letter a and enter it appends web addressing in the for of http, I want that behavior off, I want the instruction text to be Enter Address, I want search stuff popup in the address to be removed/disabled. How do we go about doing this, thanks much.

If you want to disable the whole drop-down panel then set this pref to '0' (zero).

  • browser.urlbar.maxRichResults => 0

Good, we are almost there now, how do I change the text that is displayed from "Search or enter address" to "Enter Address" AND you mentioned that the behavior where it adds http to entered letters when no web address is entered can be affected, I would like to change that to a fail page or cannot be displayed page or some such that mozilla likely has for errors of various sorts, how do we do that, thanks much. ...also the main Firefox homepage still uses the search and address bar for searches and that pop up box still comes up when typing in there, the fixes only worked on external search pages, like the one my Visual Bookmarks extension uses.
