There is no need to uninstall the Mozilla Suite first. When you first run Firefox it should ask you if you want to import settings and data from the Mozilla Suite. If you choose not to, you can run the import wizard later on, for details see Importing bookmarks and other data from Mozilla Application Suite.

If you want to use a suite (browser + email) then you can also look at the SeaMonkey Suite.
