I can set my home page and it shows correctly in the "Options", but everytime I start Firefox, it loads "file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox"

Using version 3.6.13 I just downloaded. I searched the forum and one item pointed me to "Help/Troubleshooting Information". I could get to that page, but clicking on "Open Containing Folder" gives me an error message that the user profile cannot be found.

Check the Target line in the Properties (right-click context menu) of Firefox desktop shortcut to see if there is anything appended to it.

Nothing appended. Actually, the error message states the file "does not exist or is not a directory." Sorry I wasn't more precise earlier.

You can start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See:

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
