I made a back up of my bookmarks to move to a new system. But when I try to import it I get an "Unsupported file type" error message. How do I get my bookmarks out of the file?

The back up shows up as just a file, no type, I've tried renaming it as a JSON file but it didn't change anything. I got the same error.

I'm running firefox 3.6 and make the back up in the save version.

Another thing to try is renaming it with a .htm or .html extension.

If that doesn't work either, do you have any other files from your old system? In particular, if you have your old places.sqlite file, you could use that to overwrite your new places.sqlite (bookmarks+history) file.
