Firefox padlock icon warning with NO Firefox add-ons

more options

Firefox is showing a red exclamation point padlock icon at a few https sites, esp. during the Payment process.

  • I have no Firefox add-ons installed.
  • My up-to-date Norton 2011 indicates no computer problems.
  • Firefox has been UNinstalled, then reinstalled. The problem has not been resolved.
  • I have only had this problem at sites from fairly well-known national vendors (ie., I do not use sites belonging to unfamiliar vendors).
  • I have tried various versions V3.6.## of Firefox.

I have searched several related mozilla forum questions. Most seem unresolved or related to add-ons. Otherwise, some have switched from Firefox to another browser.

Hopefully, someone will come up with a better solution than "use a competitor's web browser."

Thanks for the helpful response which explained why the problem is occurring. It seems that only the actual website owner can resolve the issue.

Would have responded earlier but my original question could not be easily found. The Search text box does not show my original post in the search results.
