I disabled the plugin checker by setting the line in about:config (Pref = plugins.update.notifyUser if it shows as True, double-click that pref to toggle it to False), but now I get a page popping up asking to donate to falsehope.com

I found that I had set the wrong line in the about:config file. I have now fixed this issue.

I accidentally set the update URL line to be false, and therefore Firefox was trying to load that page, and I guess the closest it could find was falsehope.com

Now I need to find the real URL that was supposed to be in there.

Right click that entry on the about:config page and choose Reset.
