I have downloaded the latest FF, how do I install it on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS? I have unpacked it in my downloads folder, but can't get the installer to recognise it.

My current FF version is: 3.6.17/1.0 for Ubuntu.

Chosen solution

If you have the binary then you just extract it to /opt however you can add package repositories which is the cleaner more integrated way to do it. I suggest you follow this guide http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/03/firefox-4-ppa-for-ubuntu-10-04-and-10-10-users/ it worked beautifully for me.

Thanks for your help, I have already installed FF5 (or 4.2 in the old count!) via Synaptic & auto-update.
