Firefox wants to update (again!) now to version 6. How do I know my extensions are compatible with the new version?
I checked with the extension developer's sites, but they do not report yet whether the extension has been tested with Firefox 6.0. The switch from 3.6 to 4.0 left me with a gap in functionality of my extensions, though the switch from 4.0 to 5.0 went fine. I recall the installer for 4.0 tested my extensions for compatibility before asking me to confirm if I wanted to install. 6.0, however, says it's already downloaded and is just waiting for me to restart Firefox. Mozilla seems to be getting less and less polite and more and more aggressive about updates.
Chosen solution
When Firefox starts Installing the Updated version, it show you the Add-ons that will not be Compatible with the New Firefox version that is being installed. You can Cancel the Installation at this step.
I am not sure about this, but you can also use - Add-on Compatibility Reporter 0.8.7
Check and tell if its working.

Modified
I'm not sure it worked. You were right that the installer first ran the compatibility check. My important extensions were not listed as incompatible, so I assumed I was safe and proceeded with the installation. However, my extensions were gone when the installation was complete. Luckily, however, I was able to successfully reinstall the extensions. So all's well that ends well, I suppose.
Thanks.
