After going through and updating Ubuntu to Ubuntu 11 and with the new Firefox 7.0.1 for Ubuntu canonical 1.0, I was going to import backup of Bookmarks from html only to find that there is no way to Import and Backup of Bookmarks. What's the deal here? I would give Tech info if there were any.

How do I restore backed up book marks when there is no way of doing it?

Chosen solution

Ubuntu 11.04 displays window menus in the control bar at the top of the screen with the switch to the Unity window manager.

Click on Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks then move your mouse to the left upper corner toward Firefox Web Browser.

You'll get pop up menu (Organize, Views and Import and Backup).

There is an import/export menu in the full bookmarks and history library window. Open the bookmarks menu and select "Show All Bookmarks", then click "Import and Backup" up top, and select "Import Bookmarks from HTML". More information is here:

Thanks, for telling me where to look... Ubuntu has drastically changed from previous version and I'm finding out that I have to get used to it all over again.

Thanks again Everyone for your help.

I use Ubuntu 11 with Firefox 7.0.1. I have a similar problem: there is no "Import and Backup" button in the bookmark library (see picture). (Also, the other buttons in that bar are missing as well, such as the "View" button that I saw in some screenshot.)

The Ubuntu 11 is a fresh install, and I did not copy any user data to $HOME/.mozilla. (I also used Chrome before deciding to migrate back to Firefox now.)

As others seem to have this button, can I activate it somehow (e.g. in a config file)?

Actually, a reply to this thread led me to the solution.

In Ubuntu 11, all menus have simply moved to the control bar (or whatever the name of the bar on the very top of the screen is). So to go to the "Import and Backup" menu, I had to move the bookmark "Library" window to a place next to the control bar, and then move onto the control bar to find the "Import and Backup" menu.

(I use the "Select windows when the mouse moves over them" setting from System Settings -> Windows, so I need the "Library" window adjacent to the control bar so it does not lose focus because the mouse pointer passes over another window while moving the mouse pointer to the control bar...)
