We've got firefox 2.6.23 - windows xp. When I click "check for updates", it says there are no updates available.

I have manually downloaded the 7.0 version and installed it but it gives messages that java console and microsoft.net framework assistant are not compatible and are disabled.

The 7.0 version gives many problems with lagging and stalls.

Is there a way to update?

Thanks.

Java Console and Microsoft.net Framework Assistant add-ons are not much needed.

Upgrade to Firefox 7.0.1

What are the other problems you are facing using Firefox 7 ??

The computer stalls and lags extremely at websites, especially with the flash player. It also lags at yahoo and a few other sites. This is happening much less with the earlier version of firefox, (it might happen once during a multi-hour session.) It crashed once today and had to restart.

One possible cause for lagging is trying to handle too many connections at once. FF6 changed the maximum number of connections to 256 (from 30). Try changing the setting in about:config.

network.http.max-connections - try 48

Correction: we've got firefox 3.6.23 (not 2.6.23)

When I click on"help/check for updates", it says that there are no updates available.

Why would version 7 give so many problems but this earlier version not give any? I will try going thru the "firefox hangs" list - but I'm not too anxious to try version 7 again. It gave a big problem on a friend's computer as well (it wouldn't start and caused the computer to jam.)

Thanks.

We've got a 2nd machine that is older and slower than the one running version 7. It is running firefox 6.0.2 and has no problems. It would seem to not be a problem with the connections settings since version 6 is set to 256.

I tried updating this machine (help/about firefox/apply update) just to see if it would develop the same problems, but it wouldn't update.

I now see why it wouldn't update - I wasn't logged in as "admin".

I'm now running version 7.0.1 on this older computer - will see how things go.

The older computer updated by logging in as "admin" but the newer computer won't update. When I click on "help/check for updates" it gives the message "there are no updates available" even though it's running version 3.6.23 of firefox.
