I have XP with svc pk 3, 32 bit and downloaded all the way up to 7.01 with no problems, also on my desktop.

Try running CCleaner..it's a free download. I used the Pirifoam option to download it. I've been using it for years and maybe you've remnants of other downloads interfering. CCleaner clears all the crap left behind when you uninstall programs, plus all the history/temp files/cookies from all browsers and more. I run it every time I sign off.

Good luck!

P.S. Facebook has an invasive cookie that follows you all over the internet, even AFTER you sign off. So, after I sign off of FB, I run CCleaner (it is VERY fast) and that way I know I'm clear of that cookie, before I continue working on the computer.
